September 11, 2001 is a date millions of Americans can remember with extraordinary clarity. Twenty-five years later, we are asking Americans: Where were you when you first heard that America was under attack?
For millions of Americans, September 11, 2001 is not simply a date in a history book.
People remember where they were, who they were with, and what they were doing when the horrifying images from New York, Washington and Pennsylvania began appearing on television.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks. Families lost parents, spouses, children, siblings, friends and coworkers. First responders rushed toward danger while thousands of others desperately tried to escape.
Twenty-five years later, those memories remain powerful.
