Trump Could Hit the Road for an October Rally Blitz Ahead of 2026 Midterms, Peter Doocy Says

President Donald Trump may be preparing for an intense month of campaigning as Republicans fight to maintain control of Congress in the November 2026 midterm elections.

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy reported on August 28 that he was hearing about plans for extensive presidential travel in October.

“We are hearing some whispers of a ton of Trump travel in October, possibly as much as a Trump rally a day in the most competitive states and districts,” Doocy said.

Doocy emphasized that such an aggressive schedule would be unusual for a sitting president during a midterm election. Historically, the president’s party often faces significant political headwinds during midterms.

The reported strategy would put Trump directly into some of the country's most competitive political battlegrounds, where control of the House and Senate could be decided by relatively narrow margins.

Trump has reportedly encouraged Republicans to campaign as though he himself were on the ballot.

Although Trump's name will not appear as a presidential candidate in November, the results could have major consequences for the final two years of his second term.

A Republican Congress could make it easier for Trump to continue advancing his legislative and policy priorities. Democratic control of either chamber, meanwhile, could lead to increased congressional oversight and investigations while making parts of Trump's agenda more difficult to enact.

That helps explain why Trump may be willing to devote so much time to campaigning for Republican candidates.

A near-daily rally schedule could also generate enormous media attention and potentially energize Trump's political base. At the same time, making the midterms increasingly centered on Trump carries political risks in districts where voters may be more divided over the president.

For now, however, the “rally a day” idea should be treated as a possibility rather than a confirmed October schedule. Doocy described what he was hearing as “whispers,” and the reporting did not establish that Trump has formally committed to holding a rally every day.

If the plan materializes, October could resemble the final stretch of a presidential campaign, with Trump traveling from battleground to battleground in an attempt to protect Republican congressional majorities.
